Health fair to offer free screenings, school supplies

Thursday, August 7, 2014 | 4:44 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Area children can receive free school supplies and health services Saturday at the Boone County Back-to-School Health Fair.

Free backpacks, school supplies and haircuts will be provided to children entering grades K-12 at the fair. And health services, including vision, hearing and dental screenings, will also be available.

The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family Impact Center, 105 E. Ash St.

Children must be present to receive services. If a child's parents can't attend, the student needs to bring a parent's name and Social Security number.

The Voluntary Action Center has hosted the fair for eight years. This is the first year the fair will be held at the Family Impact Center, according to a Voluntary Action Center news release.
