High school football roundup

Saturday, August 23, 2014 | 8:23 p.m. CDT

News and notes from Friday's high school football action:

CBC HAMMERS HICKMAN: Junior quarterback Carter Nicoli ran for nearly 200 yards and scored two touchdowns, but that's where the good news stopped for Hickman High School on Friday. The Kewpies lost 63-14 to Christian Brothers College in the season opener in St. Louis.

JACKSON OFFENSE TOO MUCH FOR BATTLE: Battle scored a touchdown in each quarter, but its defense couldn't stop Jackson High School, which rolled over the Trojans 62-34 Friday in Jackson. Battle's next game is also on the road, at Holt.

LOCK LIGHTS IT UP: Drew Lock, who committed to Missouri in April, began his senior season at Lee's Summit with eye-popping numbers. The 6-foot-5 quarterback threw for 343 yards and six touchdowns in his team's 81-42 win over Truman on Friday.

Lock and Lee's Summit will play at Hickman this week. That game is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
