COLUMBIA — Senior pitcher Shannon Greene allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in seven shutout innings as the Hickman High School softball team opened the season with a 6-0 win over Boonville High School.

The Kewpies broke the game open in the bottom of the first with four runs and added a run in each of the last two innings. Senior Morgan Hawkins led Hickman with two RBIs, while junior Brittany Nelson and senior Molly Carter each added two hits in the victory.

This is the first time the Kewpies have played at Hickman High School since new turf was installed last spring on the school's baseball and softball field. The team played at Cosmopolitan Park last season.

Hickman's next game will be Sept. 3, when the team travels to Hallsville High School.
