Gwendolyn Joyce Alexander dies at 71

COLUMBIA — Gwendolyn "Joy" Joyce Alexander, 71, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, in Cape Coral, Fla.

Mrs. Alexander was born Jan. 28, 1943, to Forrest and Isla Crane.

She grew up in Columbia, where she graduated from Hickman High School in 1961 and later attended MU.

She was involved in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-Hand a parent teacher association while raising her children. Mrs. Alexander was a genealogist and family historian.

She worked at Lucille's Restaurant in Columbia and taught knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed sewing, needlework and weaving.

She is survived by her husband of more than 52 years, Bill Alexander, of Cape Coral, Fla.; four children, Alisa Biache, of Alexandria, Va., W. Brock Alexander, of St. George, Utah, David Alexander, of San Clemente, Calif., and John Alexander, of Addis, La.; a brother, John Crane, of Wilbraham, Mass.; and 14 grandchildren, Adam, Adeline, Aiden, Allison, Anna, Brady, Connor, David, Evan, Hannah, Kaitlin, Ryan, Sayre and Shands.

Private services will be held at a later date.
