Saturday, August 30, 2014 | 12:51 a.m. CDT; updated 7:38 a.m. CDT, Saturday, August 30, 2014

The Battle High School football team defeated Holt High School 56-49 Friday.

Battle jumped out to a 35-7 lead Friday, only to almost see the 28-point lead later vanish.

By halftime, Holt closed the gap to 42-28. But the scoring was just getting started. Holt consistently crept within a touchdown of Battle throughout the second half. The win wasn't decided until an interception by Nash Sutherlin with 1:36 left in the game.

Battle moves to 1-1 on the season and will face off against Rock Bridge next week at 7 p.m. on Friday.
