Columbia College volleyball finishes undefeated at Hampton Inn Classic

COLUMBIA — Columbia College defeated Benedictine College and Indiana University East on Saturday to keep its undefeated season alive.

In their first match of the day, the Cougars beat the Benedictine College Ravens by scores of 25-20, 25-8 and 25-13. The team followed a tight first set with dominating performances, with junior Polina Severina recording 13 kills in the process. Senior Lydie van Deursen recorded 33 assists against the Ravens. 

Van Deursen starred again in Columbia College's second match against Indiana University East, tallying another 33 assists in 25-16, 25-22 and 25-20 victories.

Severina was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while van Deursen and senior Brooke Simpson were named to the all-tournament team. Simpson posted 15 kills and 10 digs against Indiana University East, tying a season-high in kills for the team. 

Columbia College's next match will be against the Evangel University Crusaders at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders are 6-2 this season.
