Chavez, Stanfield star for Stephens College in Early Bird race

COLUMBIA — The Stephens College cross-country team participated in the Gabby Reuveni Early Bird on Saturday with four runners participating in the competition.

Two Stephens runners, freshmen Fey Chavez and Brittany Stanfield, broke the top 100. Chavez finished in 89th place with a time of 19:01 and Stanfield finished 95th at 19:28.

Senior Ivi Lewis and sophomore Julie Valentine also competed for the Stars. Lewis finished in 106th place with a time of 21:33, two places ahead of Valentine at 22:09.

The Stars' next competition will be at the University of Central Missouri Mule Run in Warrensburg. The event will take place at 9 a.m. Sept. 13.
