Norm and Doc

I can read and re-read…

Norm: USA Today — That’s all I read. I like to stay caught up with current events.

Doc: Sports Illustrated. I can read it over and over again. I’m a big sports fanatic, so I like to keep up with all the gossip in the sports world.

If I could go back in time, I’d go back…

Norm: I lived in the ’60s and it was good, but I’d say the ’50s because I’d like to see Elvis again.

Doc: To the ’60s. It was the muscle car era, and living was cheap. It was a simple life.

If I could be someone other than me for a day, I’d be…

Norm: Bill Gates. I’d like to see how much money he really has.

Doc: President Bush. I’d like to see how much money he makes off of the oil industry, who really runs the country, and what it would be like to be protected. I’d like to ride in Air Force One — just push the magic button at any time.

The invention I couldn’t live without is…

Norm: I can’t say my cell phone because I hate it. So, electricity. Without it, nothing would work.

Doc: Indoor plumbing for obvious reasons. The cell phone and computer are great, but you end up hating them.

My guiltiest pleasure is…

Norm: “American Idol.” I like Simon Cowell.

Doc: Murry’s in Columbia. I compare every other restaurant to Murry’s.

If I could only take three things on a deserted island, I’d bring…

Norm: My wife and two kids. My wife is pretty industrious. She would learn to fish and provide for me. My son would probably come up with a way to make single malt scotch out of coconuts, and my daughter would be fine too. She’d sunbathe.

Doc: I’d bring an endless supply of Budweiser, a Rubik’s cube because I never figured it out when it was popular, and some suntan lotion; I wouldn’t want to die of cancer on a deserted island.

My favorite place in Columbia is…

Norm: Harpo’s. I have a band and I love to play gigs there. We played there in the fall when the Cardinals won. It was absolute pandemonium.

Doc: Murry’s, Booches, Shiloh, Truman’s — anywhere there’s good food, good friends and good alcohol.
