Voting basics

Saturday, March 31, 2007 | 12:00 a.m. CDT; updated 8:00 a.m. CDT, Sunday, July 20, 2008

Who can vote?

You must be a registered voter in Boone County to cast a ballot on Tuesday. The registration deadline for this election has passed.

Where can I vote?

You can find your polling place by going to the Boone County clerk’s Web site, showmeboone.com/clerk, clicking on “Find your polling place” then entering your name. You can also view a full list of polling places in the county on the Web site.

When can I vote?

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Do I need to bring anything?

You’ll need one form of identification, which could be any of the following:

  • Your voter ID card
  • A driver’s license
  • A state-issued ID
  • Any college or university ID
  • A U.S. passport
  • A Social Security card
  • A Medicaid or Medicare card or a federally issued ID

You could also present a copy of:

  • A current utility bill
  • A bank statement
  • A government check
  • A paycheck
  • Any government document that lists your name and address as a form of identification

What if I’ve moved?

If you’ve moved since the last time you voted in Boone County, you’ll have to file a change of address before voting Tuesday.

You can do this by clicking on “Change of address” on the clerk’s Web site, showmeboone.com/clerk. You must include your name, old address, new address, mailing address (if different), date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If you have not changed your address by Election Day, you can call the clerk’s office at 886-4375 before going to vote so your address will be updated and you can be assigned to the correct polling place.

Can I vote electronically?

Because this is a local and not a federal election, Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren said, the touchscreen voting equipment with audio will only be available at 18 polling places.

Any voters who need the equipment with audio can notify the clerk’s office after they receive their sample ballots in the mail, which will indicate the locations that have the systems.

How can I find out more?

For more information, go to the Boone County Clerk’s office Web site, showmeboone.com/clerk, or call the county clerk’s office at 886-4375.
