The Phillips 66 gas station at 1202 Business Loop 70 E. was robbed early Tuesday morning, according to Columbia police.
At 7:50 a.m., police responded to a holdup alarm at the gas station. Upon arrival, officers were told that a man entered the store and went behind the counter, said Sgt. Gerry Greene of the Columbia Police Department.
The robber grabbed the clerk and took a small amount of cash that was on the register, Greene said. The man tried to open the register but was unsuccessful. He then left the store and fled southbound.
Police described the robber as a 5-foot-6-inch black man, weighing 140 pounds with a medium build, a light beard, short hair and a medium complexion. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a light-blue shirt and jeans.
