In a meeting Wednesday, Rep. Chuck Graham, D-Columbia and UM system President Elson Floyd agreed to hold a public forum in mid-January to discuss the future of MU’s medical school.

More than a month ago, Graham asked for a forum in a letter to UM System Board of Curators President Connie Silverstein. In his letter, Graham said he knows curators have been approached with an offer to shift the medical school’s operations to Kansas City.

Graham said he and Floyd had a productive meeting in which the president reiterated his support for medical education in Columbia. Details of the forum’s format will be discussed later, Graham said.

When asked if he thinks the move is still a threat, Graham said he never underestimates people who have $400 million to throw away.
