Christmas tree pickup starts Friday

Tuesday, December 23, 2003 | 12:00 a.m. CST; updated 6:57 a.m. CDT, Monday, July 7, 2008

As early as Friday, Columbia residents can dispose of their Christmas trees.

From Friday through Jan. 30, trees can be set on the curb for pickup during regular garbage collection.

Columbia’s public works department will collect trees that don’t have any plastic tree bags, tree stands, tinsel, lights or ornaments. Collection will not take place on New Year’s Day or Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

After Jan. 30, Christmas trees must be cut into 4-foot lengths and bundled.

Christmas trees may also be taken to Columbia’s yard waste drop-off points — Capen Park Mulch Site south of Stadium Boulevard off Rock Quarry Road, and Parkside Mulch Site, off Creasy Springs Road.

For more information, contact the Public Works Solid Waste Division at 874-6291.
