Missouri defeats Oklahoma State

The Missouri softball team defeated Oklahoma State 4-3 on Thursday at the Big 12 Conference Championships in at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the sixth, Heather Kunkel hit a sacrifice fly to score pinch runner Ashley Hays. Hays came in after A.J. White’s double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alli Kennewell.

Rain postponed the Tigers’(27-23) second game Thursday against Texas A&M and they will play at 11 a.m. today.

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Rain canceled Thursday’s game between Hickman Rock Bridge on Thursday at Taylor Stadium. Hickman led 6-5 and was coming up to bat in the third inning when the game was called.

Hickman coach Kent Fewell and Rock Bridge coach said they wanted to continue playing, but did not want to risk an injury to a player so close to the district tournament, which begins Monday at Hickman Field.

MISSOURI BASEBALL: The College Sports Information Directors of America named Missouri’s Garrett Broshuis, a junior right-handed pitcher for the Tigers baseball team, to the Academic All-District VII Team. Broshuis, a psychology major with a 3.92 grade point average, is 7-0 this season with a 2.83 ERA and has 70 strikeouts.

HICKMAN SOCCER: Senior Ashley Turner has committed to play for Missouri Southern State University Turner was a four-year starter and a two time All-District and All-Region selection for the Kewpies.

MAVERICKS: Mid-Missouri traded first baseman Bill Greenwell for Washington Wild Things’ pitchers Brian Dorsey and Jason Elkins on Tuesday. In 2002, Dorsey played for the Phillies in the Gulf Coast League where he went 3-2 with a 2.57 ERA. He had no decisions for the Wild Things in 2003 and had a 3.20 ERA.

Elkins, who began his professional career in 2002 with the Wild Things, went 3-2 with a 4.03 ERA last season. He had 57 strikeouts in 38 innings. Elkins holds the NAIA record for saves.
