Doug Black has resigned as Hickman’s wrestling coach to take the job at Blue Springs South.

“A good opportunity came up for me and my family,” Black said. “I couldn’t turn it down.”

His daughter, Lydia, 2 1/2, has a vision problem, and that played a role in Black’s decision.

“They have a couple of programs they don’t offer in Columbia,” Black said.

Black said events moved quickly in the past few weeks.

“It’s something that came up, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing,” Black said. “It’s a thing I can’t turn down for my family.”

Black said his favorite moment was winning the district title in 2003.

“We came out of nowhere and came together as a team and won a district title that wasn’t expected,” Black said.
