The Mid-Missouri Mavericks routed the Gateway Grizzlies 10-3 on Wednesday in Sauget, Ill.
The Mavericks (3-16) scored in the first five innings to build 6-3 lead and had five consecutive hits in a four-run seventh. The Mavericks outhit the Grizzlies 14-8.
Nick Saunders singled to lead off the seventh. After Blake Blase followed with a single, Saunders scored on Matt Oakes’ single for a 7-3 lead. Matt Teahen doubled to left field to drive in Blase, and Oakes and Teahan reached home on John Oehler’s single.
Blase, a first baseman, went 3-for-5 and had two RBIs and two runs. Saunders, who played left field, went 2-for-3 and also had two RBIs and two runs.
Mavericks starter Steve Soja pitched six innings for his first win of the season, allowing three runs and seven hits.
The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 11-8. Starter Kevin Lee (3-1) threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs and six hits.
