’Hawks edge Soja, Mavs

The Mid-Missouri Mavericks lost 3-2 against the Rockford Riverhawks on Monday night at Marinelli Field in Rockford, Ill.

Mavericks pitcher Steve Soja (1-1) suffered the loss despite striking out seven and walking none in a complete game.

The Mavericks (3-21) earned a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Blake Blasé’s two-run home run to left field.

It was Blasé’s second home run in two nights and his seventh this season.

After scoring a run in the bottom of the first, the Riverhawks (16-8) went ahead in the fourth, scoring two runs on an error and wild pitch.

Frank James (3-1) struck out six and walked one to earn the win for the Riverhawks, who completed a three-game sweep of the Mavericks and moved to 6-0 against them this season.
