The Mid-Missouri Mavericks couldn’t match the Gateway Grizzlies’ power Tuesday night in Sauget, Ill., losing 7-2.

A three-run eighth inning by the Grizzlies (32-34) proved too much for the Mavs (12-43).

The Grizzlies had 12 hits, including three home runs.

The Mavs played catch-up throughout the night. They were down 2-1 in the fourth inning, after Greg Stevens’ home run.

The Mavs’ first run came in the third inning with shortstop Rafael Lara scoring on a wild pitch. Lara went 2-for-4.

It took five innings before the Mavs scored on Matt Oakes’ single that drove in Brent Metheny.

Shuck (1-2) pitched seven innings and got the loss. He gave up nine hits, four runs and struck out three.
