The Columbia All-Stars were eliminated Friday in the semifinals of Little League Baseball’s 11- and 12-year-old Midwest Regional, losing for the second time to Iowa 5-4.

Columbia manager Mark Pfeiffer said he was pleased with his team’s performance despite the loss.

“They are a good team, and they put the ball in play,” Pfeiffer said.

Starting pitcher D.J. Christensen gave up six hits, striking out nine and walking five.

Iowa’s starting pitcher, Derek Gibson, hit a three-run home run in the third and Iowa went ahead 5-0 in the fourth.

Columbia scored two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

The All-Stars were the first Columbia Little League team to play at the regional level.
