The Mid-Missouri Mavericks beat the River City Rascals 12-1 on Tuesday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark, in O’Fallon for their third straight win.

It is the first time the Mavericks (21-53) beat the Rascals (38-37) by more than two runs this season. The Mavericks are 3-10 against River City.

Brent Metheny hit a grand slam, and Tomari Storey-Harden hit a three-run home run for the Mavericks, who scored their first run in the second inning. The Rascals scored their only run in the seventh inning.

COLUMBIA COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: The Cougars signed Renee Zimmerman of Bernie and Vanessa Breen of Sullivan.

Zimmerman is a 6-foot outside and middle hitter who transferred to Columbia after two seasons at Three Rivers Community College in Popular Bluff. She was named All-Conference, All-Region, All-District and All-State for two seasons at Bernie High.

Breen will be a freshman setter, libero and defensive specialist. She earned all-conference, All-District, All-Region, and most valuable player recognition at Sullivan High, where she was a team captain for two seasons.
