Patterson shuts down Mavericks

Scott Patterson struck out 13 in eight innings to lead the Gateway Grizzlies to an 8-5 victory against the Mid-Missouri Mavericks on Sunday night in Sanget, Ill.

Todd Oetting had three hits, including a solo home run in the fourth, and scored twice for Gateway (52-36), and Ryan Sullivan went 3-for-4, driving in three runs.

Third baseman Brent Metheny drove in four runs and hit a 3-run home run in the second for the Mavericks (26-61).

After allowing four runs in the second and one in the third, Patterson (11-1) shut out the Mavericks, giving up one hit in his final five innings. Dave Klahs pitched the ninth for his third save.

Jason Wiedmeyer (2-8) gave up six runs in four innings and got the loss.
