Neither Hickman nor Rock Bridge found much success in this weekend’s Kewpie Classic at Cosmopolitan Park.

Rock Bridge finished 1-3 in the two-day tournament to drop to 4-13 on the season.

The Bruins ended the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Parkway South on Saturday. Pitcher Kelsey Oerly held Parkway South to five hits and two unearned runs until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Patriots batted around and scored five runs to take the lead for good.

Kendall Brown had the Bruin’s only RBI when she grounded out in the third, scoring pinch runner Jennifer Schilke from third base.

After losing its first two games of the tournament, to St. Dominic and Francis Howell on Friday, Rock Bridge fended off Excelsior Springs on Saturday morning, 9-6, for its only win.

“Overall, I think we did OK,” Rock Bridge coach Jennifer Mast said. “I think we could have played a lot better in the tournament. It would have been nice to have won two games.”

Hickman opened the tournament with a 5-0 loss to Pattonville on Friday night. The Kewpies then lost 9-3 to Neosho and 9-3 to Parkway South, before beating Excelsior Springs 8-1 in the team’s final game Saturday afternoon.

The Kewpies fell to 3-13 on the season.
