Columbia police Capt. Sam Hargadine said Thursday that the condition of Officer Molly Bowden, 23, was improving, but doctors were still watching her closely.
Bowden, who was shot Monday night, was still listed in critical condition as of 10 p.m. Thursday.
“She is still critical, but she is moving a little more toward the positive,” Hargadine said. “That is definitely good news.”
Doctors are now concerned about the extent of injuries to her spine, he said.
Bowden suffered three gunshot wounds to the neck and shoulder during what Police Chief Randy Boehm said was a routine traffic stop. Richard T. Evans shot Bowden and then another officer the next morning before fatally shooting himself.
Bowden had lost so much blood as a result of her injuries that Hargadine said blood had to be brought in from other cities.
