A Columbia man died in a one-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Roy T. Gallemore IV was driving on Creasy Springs Road around 2:20 a.m. Sunday when he attempted a curve at an unsafe speed, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The 1996 Mitsubishi Galant left the roadway, sideswiped a tree and hit another tree nearly head-on. It did a 180-degree turn when Gallemore was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Gallemore was taken to the University Hospital emergency room for treatment. He was pronounced dead at 3 a.m.

Both the speed of the vehicle and the driver’s blood alcohol level contributed to the crash, according to the news release, which said Gallemore’s blood alcohol level was above Missouri’s legal limit of 0.08 percent.
