Newly elected councilwomen to take oath

Laura Nauser, touted as a business-savvy and growth-friendly real estate agent, will attend a swearing-in ceremony tonight that will make her Columbia’s new Fifth Ward city councilwoman.

Nauser won Tuesday’s election, beating Columbia attorney Gayle Troutwine and state epidemiologist Joseph Vradenburg.

First Ward City Councilwoman Almeta Crayton, who ran unopposed for the council seat, will also take the oath of office and begin her third term.

The ceremony is at 5 p.m. in the council chambers of the Daniel Boone Building, 701 E. Broadway. A reception in the building’s mezzanine will follow the ceremony.

The council also plans to elect a new mayor pro-tem, replacing Third Ward Councilman Bob Hutton, who will conduct meetings if Mayor Darwin Hindman is unable to attend.
