A Mexico, Mo., woman was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for burning checks and aiding suspects in connection with the killing of a Mexico, Mo. restaurant owner Komninos “Gus” Karellas, 60.
Donna Doyal, 40, was sentenced to serve four concurrent terms of four years for tampering with evidence, and two consecutive terms of four years for hindering prosecution.
Doyal pled guilty May 23 to four counts of tampering with physical evidence and two counts of hindering prosecution.
She burned four checks from the G&D Steakhouse, which resulted in tampering charges. The two charges of hindering prosecution were for harboring suspects Quinton Canton Jr., 18, and Lance Berry, 17.
According to police, Canton and Berry drove to Doyal’s home where she burned the stolen checks and told them to throw away the bloody clothes.
Canton, Doyal’s son, is scheduled for trial Nov. 14, and Berry is scheduled for trial Oct. 10. Both are charged in connection with Karellas’ murder.
