A late-night house burglary was foiled after one of the occupants of the south Columbia residence slammed the door on two armed men.

The two men fired shots into the house on Poplar Hill Drive before fleeing, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

Police responded to the report at 11:50 p.m., but the men had already fled the scene. Residents of the home said the two men wore dark clothing with hoods hiding their faces, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
