Scherzer and Mense named to award watch list

Juniors Max Scherzer and Hunter Mense were named to the 2006 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, which awards the national player of the year honor.

The list includes 120 players, but will be cut down to 12 semifinalist in late May.

Scherzer was the Big 12 pitcher of the year and second team All-American last season. He led the Big 12 with 131 strikeouts and also had a 1.86 ERA. Mense, who was an All-Big 12 selection last season, had a .327 batting average.
