A Columbia man was arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree assault and armed criminal action. Police said he stabbed a man he knew following a dispute over a cell phone.

Rodderick Deondray Whitaker, 27, was being held Friday on a collective $100,000 bond after being arrested around 12:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of E. Nifong Boulevard. Columbia Police Sgt. Roger Allen said Whitaker cooperated at the time of his arrest.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated for non-life threatening knife wounds at a local hospital.

“He had a couple of wounds to the midsection of his body and some defense wounds on his arms,” Allen said.

The incident is still under investigation.
