A man who had been shot several times broke into a Boone County home looking for help early Saturday morning, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

The homeowner, who lives on Brown School Road near Creasy Springs Road north of Columbia, was awakened by the sound of someone trying to break into her house around 1:50 a.m.

As she was trying to escape, the wounded man got inside and asked her to call the Sheriff’s Department and an ambulance. When deputies arrived on the scene, the wounded man was lying on a bedroom floor.

Deputies were unable to find out who had shot the man or where the shooting had taken place. An ambulance crew took the wounded man to a hospital. His status was unknown as of Saturday afternoon.
