Steve Kullman prepares a donated bike at the Recycle Pednet event Sunday. “This is my third year volunteering now ... and it’s really rewarding,” he said. Kullman was showing 11-year-old Keith Clayton, left, how to maintain used bikes. Keith is a member of a 4-H club and volunteered at the event.

Donated bikes get fresh start with new owners.

Volunteers take a break at the Recycle Pednet Event on Sunday. People were asked to donate old bikes, which were then repaired and given to other Columbians. The event was held in the Columbia/Boone County Health Department’s parking lot. Volunteers worked all morning preparing usable bikes and taking parts from scrapped bikes.
