Paddlers in the Missouri River 340 Race steer their canoes and kayaks past the Kansas City skyline Tuesday morning at the start of the event, which is set to finish Saturday in St. Charles. Of the 11 Columbia area paddlers entered, 42-year-old Bryan Hopkins and 22-year-old Katie Pfefferkorn were the fastest Tuesday. An 8 p.m. post on rivermiles.com said Hopkins reached the race’s first checkpoint in Lexington at 2:18 p.m., while Pfefferkorn was there at 2:58 p.m. Chuck McHenry from Ironton was the first in Lexington at 1:51 p.m.
