The MU women’s basketball team will face 13 teams that played in the postseason last year and will open the regular season against Murray State Nov. 9 at Mizzou Arena.
The schedule, which was released on Wednesday, features 16 games at Mizzou Arena, including the annual State Farm Tiger Classic, Dec. 7-8, for the 29th straight year. Alcorn State, Stephen F. Austin and Mississippi Valley State round out the field in a tournament the Tigers have won 20 times.
The Tigers will open conference play a month later against Colorado Jan. 9 at Mizzou Arena and will face what will likely be their toughest stretch of the season from Jan. 23 to February 9 when five of their six games are against 2006 NCAA Tournament participants.
COLUMBIA COLLEGE SOCCER: The Columbia College soccer team lost 2-1 Wednesday at Hannibal-LaGrange to open play in the American Midwest Conference. Senior Sam Gelven scored the lone goal for the Cougars on a free kick from midfield in the 60th minute.
The loss drops the Cougars to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The Cougars will play Saturday against Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.
ROCK BRIDGE SOCCER: The Bruins won 4-1 at Duchesne on Wednesday to improve to 5-6.
Duchesne scored the game’s first goal seven minutes in, but Travis Ward, Brian Breeding, Marcus Solomon and Matt Quetsch all scored in the second half for Rock Bridge.
ROCK BRIDGE TENNIS: The Bruins improved to 10-2 Wednesday with a 6-3 win over Helias. After sweeping the doubles matches to start the meet, coach Ben Loeb tinkered with the lineup to give the Bruins a different look.
“I wanted to mix up the lineup to give other girls a chance to play varsity competition,” Loeb said.
The Bruins will play Friday at the Southern Illinois Duals.
