COLUMBIA — MU Tigers fan Chip Van Horn, 21, lives in San Antonio and wants to help his fellow fans get the most out of their trip to the Big 12 Championship game.

Earlier this week, Van Horn offered MU fans going to Saturday’s game advice about the city on the Missouri Football Fans application on Facebook, the social networking site. So we asked Van Horn to give mid-Missourians going to Saturday’s game some pointers on where to eat, what to do and how to snag the best parking spot.

Q: Say you want to get away from the Alamodome for an hour — what would you do?

A: “The River Walk. It has a lot of shops and restaurants around there. A restaurant I would suggest would be Boudro’s. It’s a Southwest food place with some gourmet; it’s a mix. A good Mexican restaurant would be Mi Tierra.”

Q: Where’s a good place to go to eat quick and cheap?

A: “My favorite fast food place down here is Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. It’s a wide variety of barbecue and they’re really quick. There’s a drive-thru window.”

Q: And what about breakfast?

A: “There is an area down west Interstate 10 a few miles where there’s a shopping center called The Rim. There’s a restaurant there called Mimi’s Café, and it has very good breakfast.”

Q: What’s a must-see?

A: “The Alamo is pretty popular amongst tourists. That is kind of located around downtown.”

Q: How do you avoid crowds and traffic?

A: “When planning on going to the Alamodome, the first thing to do is plan on getting there about an hour and a half early. The parking spots will be filled up very quickly — a lot of people might have to plan on walking a good distance. There is public parking A, B and C for around $10. The Durango lot on the south side is $6, but there is very limited parking there; you have to be pretty early.”

Q: Why are you a Tigers fan?

A: “I’m a huge Tigers fan. I grew up in Sedalia, MO., and just moved out here. I attended almost every Missouri home game while growing up, so I’m pretty excited they made it down here.”

Q: Why are you attending University of Texas at San Antonio now?

A: “My mom moved down here so I’m closer to her and my girlfriend’s family lives in Houston. I met her in Sedalia. I converted her to a Tigers fan. I’m still working on her to go over to the Cardinals though.”
