Nathan Estep's Profile
WHAT DO YOU DO AT THE MISSOURIAN?
I'm the design director, which means I oversee the presentation of the daily print edition.
WHAT KIND OF JOURNALISM KEEPS YOU GOING?
I love the creative process, and the creativity that goes into planning a newspaper. From daily news presentation to long-term projects, I love my job when it involves coming up with fresh ideas.
WHAT'S YOUR WORK AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?
Before joining the Missourian in 2011, I was the deputy art director of the National newspaper in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. There, I helped design, develop and launch the UAE's first national English-language daily. I also designed the weekend edition of the newspaper and developed some smaller print products including a travel magazine. I received my Master's degree in Print Journalism from the University of Miami and my bachelor's from the University of Michigan. Additionally, I worked for many years as a designer and copy editor at The Miami Herald; I taught design classes at the University of Miami and at Zayed University (in Abu Dhabi); and I was part of a team who directed a summer high school journalism camp in Coral Gables, Fla.
WHAT'S YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK LIFE?
I love travel, art, music and fine food. I'm addicted to Starbuck's coffee and Les Mills exercise classes, and
I'm completely devoted to my 6-year-old Boxer.
