Anne Dankelson's Profile

Heading into my senior year at the University of Missouri, I'm currently a member of the 2014 Sports Journalism Institute, a program that aids women and minority sports journalists.

I joined the Missourian in 2013 as a sophomore journalism student, and I was responsible for covering the MU gymnastics team and the Columbia College softball team.

Later, as a junior, I covered the MU softball team for the spring 2014 semester.

Journalism is the most rewarding to me when it goes beyond just the straight facts and really humanizes a story. This is especially true when it comes to sports. The final score is obvious to anyone watching the game. But what interesting aspects can we, as journalists, discover and communicate beyond this? Digging up these kinds of features is one of my goals as a sports reporter.

I'm originally from Aurora, Ohio, and I graduated from Aurora High School in 2011. With an older sister, a twin brother, a younger brother and a large Chow mix, things were never boring growing up. My twin and I ran cross country and track together throughout high school, and I have continued running ever since.

Mizzou and Columbia in general have much to offer, and I've enjoyed getting to know the area and look forward to seeing what else I can discover.
