WHAT DO YOU DO AT THE MISSOURIAN?

I am a public safety and health reporter, so I cover mostly crime and medical issues. Other than that, I cover whatever I'm assigned.

WHAT KIND OF JOURNALISM KEEPS YOU GOING?

I like to do features on people. I'm not entirely sure why that is, but something about telling someone's story for them is really enjoyable for me. I'm a hard core sports fan so I also really enjoy writing sports columns and game recaps. Mostly, I like telling stories that don't come by very often.

WHAT'S YOUR BACKGROUND?

My background is mostly in sports. I have written recaps for Missouri's women's basketball and baseball teams as well as features on MU football and men's and women's basketball athletes. Previously I've done some freelance work for a college baseball website, covering mostly the SEC with one column about the University of Pittsburgh. Most of my journalistic reading is about sports as well. My favorite authors are Pat Forde (Mizzou grad), Dan Wetzel and Pittsburgh's own Dejan Kovacevic.

WHAT'S YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE WORK LIKE?

As I mentioned, I'm a huge sports fan. Growing up in Pittsburgh, I've been to countless Pitt football games, and I root hard for the Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers. The TV show Nashville is my guilty pleasure, and I'm notably unashamed by it.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT COLUMBIA?

I love the college town feel of Columbia. When I was picking colleges, I wanted to go somewhere that was far away and had a college town feel. Columbia definitely has that feel. My favorite thing about Columbia is Saturday mornings before football games seeing all of the excitement and tailgating around the city.
