WHAT DO YOU DO AT THE MISSOURIAN? I joined the Missourian staff in January 2014 as a community beat writer.

The type of journalism I enjoy creating the most is magazine-style pieces and profile stories. I prefer stories that allow me to get to know and understand my subjects to write an in depth piece about them, over hard news pieces with quick turnarounds. I love getting to know people to write a story that accurately represents them.

WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND? I was born in Berlin, Germany, and my parents and I are the only members of our family that live in the US. I have also lived in Salt Lake City, Fayetteville, Arkansas and now Columbia. I’m currently a sophomore journalism major with an emphasis in magazine writing at the Missouri School of Journalism. I’m minoring in Textile and Apparel Management and German.

WHAT’S YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK LIKE? Outside of work I’m a full time student. My favorite hobby is traveling. I’ve lived in two countries and I’ve visited places like France, Switzerland, and 9 of the US national parks. I’m planning on studying abroad in Germany this summer, through which I can explore more of Europe. I also love to visit my parents, cat, and friends back home in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT COLUMBIA? What I love most about Columbia is that it is the home of one of the best journalism schools in the nation. I’m lucky because the best journalism school is only a 6-hour drive from Fayetteville, where my parents live. Columbia has an awesome downtown and great student community – it is a true college town. I love that there are many students from out of state like me that I can relate to.
