Erik Hall's Profile
Erik is an assistant sports editor. He is getting a master’s from the Missouri School of Journalism in convergence journalism and investigative journalism. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign in news-editorial journalism.
Erik worked as a reporter for the La Salle (Ill.) NewsTribune, Mattoon/Charleston (Ill.) JG-TC, and Decatur (Ill.) Herald & Review. His articles have also been published by USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, Bloomington (Ill.) Pantagraph, and Carbondale (Ill.) Southern Illinoisan. He also worked in public relations for the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Currently, Erik is a member of the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE), Track and Field Writers of America (TFWA), the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA).
He received awards four times from the Illinois Press Association (IPA): twice for sports column writing, once for sports feature writing and once for sports reporting. Erik contributed to the Mattoon/Charleston JG-TC receiving 2013 first-place awards from the Southern Illinois Editorial Association in general excellence, best local news coverage, newspaper design, best use of photography and best local sports coverage; and he contributed to the JG-TC receiving 2013 awards from the Illinois Press Association for newspaper design, general excellence, best web project, news reporting single story, and best website. As a student at Illinois, Erik was part of a team that won three Society of Professional Journalists regional awards as contributor to Best Student Magazine Published Once a Year, Best All-Around Online Student Magazine, and Best Radio In-Depth Reporting.
