Madison Alcedo's Profile

My parents almost named me Storey (it would have been a little awkward for a girl named Storey to always be writing stories for the Columbia Missourian). Luckily, they went with a different name, which just so happened to make up the initials, MLA — another ironic coincidence.

I have always thought of my initials as a sign that I am supposed to be a writer. MLA stands for the Modern Language Association, which is a company that produces a style-guide for many types of writing. Even though we don’t use MLA here at the Missourian, my initials are my little reminder that writing about people, telling others’ stories is what I am supposed to be doing at this point in time.

Originally from Arlington, TX, I made the move to Columbia in August 2011 to attend the Missouri School of Journalism.

I was an education reporter during fall 2013. While I mostly reported on K-12 issues at the Missourian, I want to continue a career in travel writing.
