Marisa Tesoro's Profile
Magazine Writing student at the Missouri School of Journalism
Who I am:
Hello! My name is Marisa, and I am a reporter for the Missourian. I am majoring in magazine journalism and minoring in Spanish at the University of Missouri. I am new to the news reporting scene, but hope to take Columbia by storm. A Saint Louis native, I was one of 38 students from my high school class to come to Mizzou. My background is in writing about love and relationships for various publications like College Gloss and Her Campus.
Why I chose journalism:
During my sophomore year of high school, I took my first journalism class, Yearbook I. This class allowed me to get experience with interviewing, photographing events and designing different pages in the book. I realized that I loved this anxious, yet excited feeling I got every time I left the classroom for an assignment. I loved the rush of reporting, but, even more, I loved talking to people and hearing their stories. I learned that every body has a story, and it was my job to figure out what that story was.
What I do outside of the newsroom:
Reading, reading and more reading, all different types of stories, is what I do during my free time. I’m currently working my way through The Bell Jar and the latest issue of Glamour. You could say my interests are fairly varied. Long walks and good coffee are all I need to get through the day.
