WHAT'S YOUR EXPERIENCE AT MIZZOU? I am currently a sophomore at the University of Missouri studying Magazine Editing and English, minoring in Spanish. I am originally from Naperville, Illinois, but moved to Columbia to attend the best journalism school in the nation. I aspire to edit books in the future, but in the mean time, enjoy the reporting experience given to me by the Missouri School of Journalism. While reporting for the Columbia Missourian, I work on the Public Safety beat, uncovering stories relating to local crime.

WHAT'S YOUR BACKGROUND? Upon arriving to Mizzou, I have been fortunate enough to report for ColumbiaFavs, a local faith and values website. I was able to develop my writing and multimedia skills there by writing stories that appeared alongside videos and photographed events. I also worked with the Missouri Urban Journalism Workshop in 2013, acting as a Dorm Counselor for a group of high school students. I was able to attend many journalism lectures, and help in the editing process of these students' stories.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF JOURNALISM? I love anything that tells a story. As an avid book reader and future editor, I enjoy a story with action and characters. The public safety beat does require some of these elements--the beginning is the crime, the middle is the court case and the end is the verdict. It creates a sense of mystery and of suspense, which can only be justified in a story.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME? Outside of my academic life, I like to spend my time reading. I read every genre, from classics to science fiction to non-fiction. Apart from reading, however, I enjoy playing my clarinet and am a member of Marching Mizzou. This past season was my fifth year in marching band, second with Marching Mizzou and first as section leader. I also love cooking and traveling, but spend far less time with either hobby than I would like.

WHAT'S IN YOUR FUTURE? After graduating from the Missouri School of Journalism, I would love to return to a large city and work in the book editing industry. While I do love Columbia and all it has to offer, Chicago stole my heart and I can't wait to return to the busy lifestyle. As of now, I'm not positive what my future has to hold, but I know it'll be filled with plenty of adventures!
