Shaina Cavazos's Profile
Shaina spent 5 happy years at the Missouri School of Journalism, 3.5 of which revolved almost exclusively around the Columbia Missourian. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in journalism and economics in December 2012 and her master's degree in May 2014. She originally hails from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, and as a result, missed Portillo's italian beef every day.
A seasoned Missourian vet (in student terms), Shaina was a copy editor, a member of the community outreach team, an assistant news editor, an assistant city editor and an education beat reporter.
Shaina was the assistant director of community outreach in 2013-14 and reprised her role as an ACE during the summer of 2013. Post-Missourian, she turned her obsession with education writing and policy into a job as an education reporter.
When Shaina was not in the newsroom, she spent time with her equally journalism-obsessed friends, taught Sunday School at Congregation Beth Shalom, read and cooked. She also loves Chinese food, historical fiction, the X-Files and baking the occasional challah.
