Mary Wren McCartney
Mary Wren McCartney was born on a big game day.
Born at 1:47 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2007, Mary arrived a few hours before the MU/KU football game, giving her parents just enough time to get to the recovery room at Boone Hospital Center and tune in.
“We could hear fireworks from the hospital,” Chrissy McCartney said.
Chrissy said her husband, Brian, stayed by her side for what she said was an easy delivery of their daughter, who was 7 pounds, 15 ounces at birth. He even brought along classical and jazz music for her to listen to.
“My husband was wonderful,” Chrissy said. “He was a great labor coach.”
Both sets of grandparents were present for Mary’s birth. Chrissy’s parents happened to be visiting from out of town when Mary decided to come six days early.
While Brian and Chrissy chose the name Mary even before they knew they were having a girl, they settled on Wren just a few weeks ago.
“It’s just a name I liked,” Chrissy said.
Before their daughter was born, Brian affectionately called his wife his “little bird.” Now that Mary’s arrived, Chrissy said their daughter has also gotten that nickname.
“Now she’s our little bird,” Chrissy said proudly.
Editor’s note: The Missourian recognizes that all babies are perfect. That’s why the baby of the week is chosen at random.
