When first-time parents Jake and Jenny Sherlock found out they were having a girl, they turned to the Internet to find the perfect Italian name.
But Jake Sherlock, a news editor for the Missourian, kept the name a secret until the baby was born.
Audrianna Rose Sherlock, or Audrey for short, was born at 7:45 a.m. on March 4, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center. She weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces.
Jake and Jenny were initially worried about whether Jenny would be able to carry their baby to term due to a condition with her uterus. Upon arrival of their new daughter, Jake said, “Not only did she carry a baby, but she carried a very large baby.”
Each parent says their new daughter looks like the other parent, but Jake said he’s decided it’s best to agree that Audrey looks like both of them.
“She already has both parents wrapped around her fingers,” he said.
Jenny described her new daughter as having “lots and lots of hair” and being “really cute, peaceful and healthy.”
Jake said Audrey has received visits from family and friends in the past couple of days and has enjoyed being held by all of them.
“Audrey has blue eyes but doesn’t keep them open for very long,” he said. “Her hair is really making her stick out and she is starting to show her personality.”
Asked what it feels like to be a new parent, Jenny said, “It feels pretty amazing.”
Editor’s note: While the Missourian recognizes that all babies are special, this week’s baby was chosen because her father is a member of our staff.
