The Centro Latino and the Central Missouri* Stop Human Trafficking Coalition held the first annual "Empowering Young Women" Quinceañera Celebration on May 29 at Memorial Union at MU. The event was planned to celebrate the many birthdays of the Latino youth who attend the Centro Latino and to promote awareness for the problem of human trafficking in Missouri. In Mexican culture a quinceañera celebrates a girl's fifteenth birthday and entrance into womanhood.
