Visiting the Morrison Observatory

September 24, 2007 | 12:00 a.m. CDT
When compared with the largest optical telescope on Earth, the telescope at Morrison Observatory in Fayette City Park might seem tiny. Its lens size of 12 ¼ inches pales in comparison to the 32-foot lens on a telescope in Hawaii. However, the telescope at Morrison Observatory was built in 1875 and was once the seventh largest in the U.S. On Thursday nights during the month of October the observatory will be open to the public.
