Guatemalan weaver prepares for demonstration at Stephens College

March 23, 2010 | 12:01 a.m. CDT
Oralia Chopin weaves threads together before a backstrap loom weaving demonstration begins in Stamper Commons at Stephens College on Monday evening. Chopin is vice president of TRAMA Textiles, a Guatemalan fair trade weaving cooperative that offers women employment opportunities. She said that she works at the store or with the other women some days, so she can't weave everyday, but she still enjoys weaving when she can. This was translated by Catherine Withrow, a liberal arts instructor at Stephens College.
