LOCALLY GROWN: Installing a rain barrel
July 2, 2010 | 1:11 p.m. CDT
After a few failed efforts, I finally mustered the confidence to install rain barrels. My wife, Ashley, and I will use the rainwater to nourish our vegetable garden. We put two barrels together in just about two hours, despite a few technical setbacks.
While our barrels aren’t going to make big waves in solving the stormwater issues in Columbia, they will help us conserve water, and put a valuable resource to use rather than having it flow down the street.
Contact the Missouri River Communities Network for guidance in building a barrel, or simply buy one of their completed models for $60.
