About 20 refugees from Burma and Eritrea learned skills in bike safety and attended lectures focusing on bike laws as part of the inaugural Earn-a-Bike class held for non-English speakers on Friday at the Community United Methodist Church in Columbia. The program was a joint effort of PedNet and Refugee and Immigration Services. The eight-hour course was free. Participants received a free bike for attending. The class was organized and taught by Gina Overshiner, education coordinator for PedNet; Dan Murphy, education coordinator for Refugee and Immigration Services; and Joe Silsby, cycling instructor.
