The Islamic Center of Central Missouri serves as a hub for Columbia's Muslims on August 1, which marks the first day of the month of Ramadan per the Islamic Lunar Calendar. Practitioners converge at sundown to pray and break a fast that extends from dawn to dusk. Hilowle Mohaed, 15, is one of several volunteers rotating Iftar duty throughout the month, which involves serving food at dusk when the practitioners collectively break their fast.
